Marie-Pierre Macia
After earning a degree in Classics and Literature, Marie-Pierre Macia joined the team of the Cinémathèque Française, in Paris and has researched film conservation at American Film Archives including M.O.M.A., the Library of Congress and U.C.L.A Film and Television Archives.
Later she worked in the programming team of the San Francisco International Film Festival for 10 years.
From 1998 until 2002, she was the Director of the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs (Director’s Fortnight) of the Cannes Film Festival and during her chairmanship, she championed the first features by today recognized filmmakers such as Sofia Coppola, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Carlos Reygadas, Elia Suleiman, among others… and the Romanian New Wave by presenting the first film of directors such as Cristi Puiu, Cristian Mungiu and Cornelius Porombuiu.
In 2003, the Mayor of Paris asked her to create a festival in Paris. She became the founder and director of the Paris Cinema Festival. Since 2006, she has been the Artistic Director of CROSSROADS, the co-production Forum of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
In May 2010, she was appointed director of SANAD, the new film fund of the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, supporting filmmakers with projects in development and post-production.
She is also producing for MPM Film (Movie Partners in Motion) a company she created in 2007.
Hooked (Pescuit Sportiv) is her first production, a first feature film from a young Romanian director, Adrian Sitaru, premiered at the Venice and Toronto film festivals in 2008.
In 2009, she coproduced Port of Memory by Palestinian director Kamal Aljafari.
And in 2011, MPM Film presented the new Béla Tarr film, The Turin Horse at the Berlin Film Festival where it got the Silver Bear, Grand Jury Prize and the International Press Prize.
She was named Chevalier des Arts et Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture.
Her long experience and knowledge of cinema in both the artistic and industry side, gives her long time professional recognition worldwide.
